UNWANTED WATER BUILD-UP IN TANK BUNDING
Bunding is a legal requirement in many countries particularly around tanks, storage vessels and other plants that contain liquids that may be dangerous or hazardous to the environment.
Tank bunding, also called a bund wall, is a constructed retaining wall designed to prevent inundation or breaches from a known source. It is a secondary containment system commonly used to protect environments from spills where chemicals are stored. It may also refer to any means of containing flow with possible contaminants by means of a low wall.
Almost all regulations require a holding capacity of 110% of the largest tank within the bund or 25% of the total capacity of all the tanks within the bund whichever is the greatest.
If built properly, tank bunding is large enough and strong enough to contain the contents of an entire tank.
Once the water level reaches more than 10% of the holding capacity of the bund, it is no longer fit for purpose and the water must be removed. The water is also likely to be, at best, moderately contaminated with a small amount of the tank contents. This is when tank bund cleaning is required.
Amb Environmental Services can maintain your tank bund water levels, by the means of our vacuum tankers for the removal and cleaning and local treatment works for safe disposal throughout Yorkshire, Leeds, Mirfield, Sheffield and surrounding areas.
We can offer a tank bund cleaning service schedule where we will monitor your bunds and empty when required, so you stay within the regulations and have peace of mind knowing that regulations are being met at your company.
